JT Names New Appointees to its Advisory Committee
and Compliance Committee


Tokyo, June 22, 2007 ---Japan Tobacco Inc. (JT) (TSE: 2914) announced today the new appointee to its Advisory Committee and new external appointee to its Compliance Committee. The Advisory Committee was inaugurated in July 2001, as a consultative body to the company’s top management, and provides its advisory services in areas related to middle and long-term planning and other important issues.

New Appointee to the Advisory Committee (effective July 1, 2007):
Hiroyuki Itami (Professor of Management, Graduate School of Commerce and Management, Hitotsubashi University)

Outgoing Member:
Takamitsu Sawa (Professor, Graduate School of Policy Science, Ritsumeikan University)

Remaining Members:
Kazuo Inamori (Chairman Emeritus, Kyocera Corporation)
Yoko Ohara (President, Institute for the Fashion Industries’ IFI Business School)
Sakutaro Tanino (Former Japanese Ambassador to India and China / Vice Chairman, Japan-China Friendship Center)
Tomijiro Morita (Chairman of the Board, Dai-ichi Mutual Life Insurance Company)

In addition, JT has announced a new external appointee to its Compliance Committee, Koichi Ueda, attorney at law, Koichi Ueda Law Offices. The Compliance Committee was established in October 2000, and meets six times yearly to deliberate and determine company’s internal compliance program. The Committee reports directly to the Board of Directors.
