JT Initiatives for the Harmonious Coexistence of Smokers and Nonsmokers

- Smoking Manner Advertisements
JT recognizes the importance of consistent and proactive messaging in order to improve overall smoking manners in public places. The company has been placing advertisements, on television and trains, which depict common everyday situations for smokers. Through the advertisements, produced under the slogan ''If you take notice, you can change your manners,'' it is JT's hope that smokers will take notice of the issue, rethink their habits, and exercise responsible behavior when smoking.

- Consultation for the Creation of Designated Smoking Areas
JT has been extensively involved in enhancing environments in which smokers and nonsmokers can coexist harmoniously. This includes providing free consultation to assist in the creation of designated smoking areas within public spaces, commercial facilities and business offices, in line with the characteristics and needs of the individual facilities and their users. JT had provided such services for 1,110 projects as of March 31, 2008.

- Designated Smoking Areas in Collaboration with Local Governments
JT also works closely with local governments in the development of designated smoking areas, fostering mutual respect among smokers and nonsmokers. These facilities have made a great contribution in terms of reducing littering in public as well as smoking while walking. As of April 30, 2008, the company had set up 504 designated smoking areas in collaboration with 107 local governments.
