A global business

The JT Group has grown its tobacco business globally, marketing and selling our brands in some 130 countries and regions. To achieve further growth, we will continue to strengthen our brand portfolio and equity from a long-term perspective. We are also focusing on Reduced-Risk Products (RRP) that are products with the potential to reduce the risks associated with smoking.

Supporting sustainable growth through investments from a long-term perspective

The JT Group has reinforced its business base through M&As such as RJR Nabisco's non-U.S. tobacco operations in 1999 and Gallaher in 2007, and has also expanded its product variety by acquiring two e-cigarette companies, Zandera in 2014 and Logic in 2015. In 2016, we acquired the Natural American Spirit business outside the U.S., which allowed the JT Group to enlarge its brand portfolio to meet various needs of consumers. In addition to M&A, we have invested heavily in our brands from a mid- to long-term perspective and expanded our geographical coverage. We will continue our investments for further growth.

We develop new products based on the dynamics of individual markets, with a view to meeting the diverse demands of consumers around the world. Our Global Flagship Brands (GFBs) such as Winston, Camel, MEVIUS, and LD have a strong presence in major markets across the globe. We will continue to enhance the product power of our GFBs by updating our product and package designs.

Bringing to market Reduced-Risk Products that meet consumer expectations

We believe that Reduced-Risk Products* enhance consumers' satisfaction and offer real benefits to society as well as our business. There are two main categories in RRP*: Heated Tobacco Products (HTP) and E-Vapor (e-cigarettes). Heated Tobacco Products contain tobacco which is heated rather than combusted to create an inhalable vapor. E-Vapor products heat a liquid that usually contains nicotine, but no tobacco, creating an inhalable vapor. We are committed to developing and bringing to market RRP that meet consumer expectations, and to providing factual information acquired through scientific assessment about the products.

Japan Tobacco International (JTI), which leads the JT Group's international tobacco business, employs people of more than 100 nationalities. JTI is the JT Group's profit growth engine with our balanced geographic footprint, strong brand equity, and people. We maximize synergy between the strategic and speedy style of Western management and the excellent operational quality of Japanese management. We create value by encouraging collaboration among people with different cultural backgrounds and views.
